Bhupender Yadav Calls for ‘Action-Oriented’ COP30 at Pre-COP Ministerial Roundtable in Brasilia

Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav has called for a decisive and action-driven COP30, urging the global community to translate commitments into measurable results for both people and the planet.

Speaking at the Pre-COP30 Ministerial Roundtable in Brasilia, Yadav underscored the importance of multilateralism, equity, and collective climate action, noting that the upcoming COP30 — which marks a decade since the Paris Agreement — must serve as a turning point toward implementation and accountability.

🌍 India Urges a COP of Action and Adaptation

The minister emphasized that COP30 should be remembered as the “COP of Adaptation” — one that advances climate finance, global cooperation, and locally rooted solutions to build resilience in vulnerable communities.

“As we complete ten years of the Paris Agreement, this is the moment to reaffirm our faith in multilateralism and deliver real, measurable action,” Yadav stated, calling on developed nations to honour their financial and technological commitments under the agreement.

🇮🇳 India’s Climate Leadership Under PM Modi

Highlighting India’s proactive approach, Yadav said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country has emerged as a solution-oriented voice in global climate diplomacy.
He pointed to several Indian-led initiatives that demonstrate cooperative and results-focused multilateralism, including:

  • The International Solar Alliance (ISA), promoting global solar energy adoption.
  • The Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), enhancing resilience in infrastructure planning.
  • National policies driving renewable energy expansion, green hydrogen, and sustainable development.

🌱 Advancing Climate Justice and Equity

Yadav reiterated that equity and climate justice must remain central to global negotiations, ensuring that developing countries receive the financial and technological support needed to meet climate goals without compromising growth.

He also stressed the need to bridge the gap between pledges and implementation, transforming COP30 from a conference of promises into one of tangible progress and shared accountability.

🔍 Looking Ahead to COP30

The 30th Conference of Parties (COP30) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will be hosted in Belem, Brazil, in 2025, bringing world leaders together to evaluate progress since the Paris Agreement and outline new pathways for global climate resilience.

India’s participation at the Pre-COP meeting reaffirms its role as a key voice for equity, adaptation, and sustainable growth in the global climate dialogue.
