Two Indian-origin brothers have been sentenced in the United Kingdom for serious child sex offences, following a detailed investigation by the Metropolitan Police.
Vruj Patel, 26, was handed a 22-year prison sentence for multiple counts of child rape and sexual assault, while his brother Kishan Patel received 15 months in jail for possessing and making indecent images of children. Both men were sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court in east London.
🚨 Met Police Appeals for More Victims to Come Forward
The Met Police believes that the Patels’ offences may date back to 2018 and that other victims or survivors could still come forward.
“Vruj Patel is a cowardly, opportunistic offender who preyed on vulnerable victims for his own gratification,” said Detective Sergeant Rob Blant, who led the investigation.
“The threat he poses to women and children has been reflected in his sentence and the strict lifelong conditions imposed on him under the Sexual Harm Prevention Order and sex offender notification requirements.”
DS Blant praised the “thorough and detailed investigation” that brought the offenders to justice, emphasizing that the Met remains committed to protecting victims and preventing further harm.
⚖️ Convictions and Evidence
According to the police statement, Vruj Patel pleaded guilty to:
- Rape of a child under 13
- Assault by penetration of a child under 13
- Four counts of causing a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity (one victim)
- Rape of a girl over 16 and sexual assault by penetration (second victim)
He was also found in possession of indecent images of children and guilty of voyeurism, which led to a lifetime entry on the UK’s sex offenders’ register.
Kishan Patel, meanwhile, admitted to making and possessing indecent images of children. He will serve a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order in addition to his prison sentence.
🧾 How the Investigation Began
Police investigations began when Greater Manchester Police alerted the Met Police after a third-party report revealed videos of child sexual abuse on a device sent for repair.
The device belonged to Kishan Patel, and analysis uncovered footage showing offences against a young girl known to the brothers.
“Officers acted quickly to seize the devices, and evidence soon revealed that Vruj Patel appeared in the footage,” the Met Police said in its statement.
Further videos and images were discovered showing Vruj Patel committing rape, voyeurism, and other sexual offences. He was identified through visible clothing and distinctive jewellery in the recordings.
Detectives determined that while most of the contact offences occurred in 2018, voyeuristic incidents may have continued more recently.
🧩 Ongoing Investigation and Police Appeal
Following the sentencing, the Met Police issued an appeal urging any additional victims or witnesses to come forward.
“There may be other instances where children visiting his home, or the homes of those around him, were placed under his care,” the statement said. “Detectives are interested in speaking to anyone who believes this may have been the case.”
Victim-survivors have been provided with specialist support and guidance throughout the investigation and trial process.
Reports can be made online or by calling 101, quoting “Operation Castline.”
“There are dedicated, professional officers working across London to identify those who commit offences against vulnerable people and bring them to justice,” DS Blant said.
