The Greater Atlanta Telangana Society (GATeS) celebrated its 20th anniversary in grand style by unveiling a record-breaking 43-foot Bathukamma — the tallest ever built globally and the first of its kind in America.
The spectacular event, which combined Bathukamma and Dasara festivities, drew over 5,000 attendees, transforming Atlanta into a vibrant celebration of Telugu identity, devotion, and cultural unity.
🌼 A 43-Foot Floral Marvel
Constructed by more than 50 volunteers over several months, the 43-foot Bathukamma was wrapped in 25,000 feet of colorful flowers, symbolizing devotion, sisterhood, and community strength.

Bathukamma architect Anand Bukka and GATeS president Naveen Battini envisioned the project more than a year ago, while chairman Naveen Vujjini oversaw its execution.
“This is not just a structure; it’s a statement of community pride,” said Vujjini.
Architect Bukka added, “Our team’s effort reflects the unbreakable spirit and deep cultural roots of our people.”

🎶 A Night of Tradition, Devotion, and Joy
The evening opened with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, followed by a rich lineup of cultural performances that showcased Telangana’s artistic and devotional heritage.
Highlights included:
- Devotional songs by the Sravanthi team
- Classical and folk dances by Sahitya Dance Group
- A lively Kolatam performance by Priya’s team
Priest-led Gauri Pooja, along with live performances by Telangana artists Dandepally Srinivas, Relare Ganga, and Padmavathi Mamidala, energized the crowd.
The evening also included Dasara rituals such as Durga Natha Pallaki Seva and the Jammi Aaku exchange, deepening the event’s spiritual resonance. Thousands of women danced around the massive Bathukamma, creating a breathtaking scene of faith and unity.
🏵️ A Festival of Heritage and Harmony
The venue was decorated in true Telangana style, complete with a replica of Kakatiya Thoranam designed by Madhavi and an array of food stalls and artisan booths celebrating the state’s culinary and cultural richness.
Photography by Raghu Valusani and videography by Sharath Goparaju captured the event’s color, emotion, and grandeur.
The GATeS team also honored Sudhir Kodati, one of the earliest advocates for promoting Bathukamma internationally.
“Our volunteers didn’t just build a 43-foot Bathukamma — they built a legacy,” said GATeS president Naveen Battini, thanking the community, volunteers, and sponsors for their dedication and teamwork.
💫 20 Years of Togetherness
As GATeS marks two decades of service, the organization reaffirmed its mission to preserve and promote Telangana’s culture across the United States.
The record-setting Bathukamma stood not only as a floral masterpiece but as a symbol of unity, devotion, and the enduring global spirit of the Telugu diaspora.
