Dubai and Abu Dhabi Ranked Among the World’s Safest and Most Scenic Cities to Explore at Night

Dubai, UAE – A new global study by Travelbag, a UK-based travel agency, has placed Dubai and Abu Dhabi among the world’s most scenic and safest cities to explore after dark, reaffirming the UAE’s growing reputation for beauty, innovation, and security — even under the night sky.

According to the research, Dubai ranked 3rd globally for its nighttime visual appeal, while Abu Dhabi secured 12th place, both celebrated for their striking skylines, architectural brilliance, and secure urban environments.

A Tale of Two Nightscapes

The Travelbag study evaluated global cities on several parameters, including nightlife offerings, safety index, light and noise pollution, and the overall aesthetic of cityscapes after dark.

🌆 Dubai: A Dazzling City That Never Sleeps

With 190 venues open late, Dubai’s nightlife thrives with an unmatched energy — from rooftop lounges and waterfront promenades to desert safaris under the stars.
However, the city also faces challenges typical of vibrant metropolises, such as light and noise pollution, earning a score of 52.58 out of 100 on Travelbag’s nighttime scale.

Still, Dubai’s illuminated skyline — featuring the Burj Khalifa, Museum of the Future, and Dubai Frame — continues to attract photographers, explorers, and travellers drawn to its shimmering spectacle.

🌙 Abu Dhabi: Calm, Classy, and Captivating

In contrast, Abu Dhabi offers a quieter, more serene nightscape. With 62 late-night venues, the capital city recorded a lower pollution rating of 47, reflecting its peaceful urban rhythm.

From the Corniche waterfront to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque glowing against the night sky, Abu Dhabi’s charm lies in its understated elegance and tranquility — appealing to visitors seeking reflection over revelry.

🌌 The Rise of “Noctourism”

The report aligns with an emerging global travel trend — “noctourism”, or nighttime tourism — where travellers seek experiences designed exclusively for the night.

According to Booking.com, “noctourism” is poised to become one of the top travel trends of 2025, with tourists increasingly opting for after-dark adventures such as stargazing, moonlit walking tours, and late-night safaris.

Dubai has been quick to embrace this shift, curating new experiences for cooler evening hours — a practical move given its year-round high temperatures.

🏜️ Night Safaris and New Experiences

Late-night desert safaris have seen a 22% rise in search interest, according to Travelbag’s data.
Visitors now favour cooler, atmospheric desert tours that highlight the stark beauty of the dunes beneath a star-filled sky.

Adding to the mix, Dubai Municipality recently launched “night swimming” at three public beaches, allowing residents and tourists to enjoy the sea safely under floodlit, lifeguard-supervised conditions. The initiative has been hailed as both innovative and inclusive — especially for families and working residents seeking leisure after sunset.

🏙️ A City That Glows with Purpose

From illuminated art districts to night markets, both Dubai and Abu Dhabi continue to invest in safe, sustainable, and vibrant after-dark experiences.
Their consistent ranking in global travel studies reflects not just their infrastructure but also their commitment to security, tourism innovation, and livability.

“Cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi are redefining what nighttime tourism can look like — where safety meets spectacle,” the Travelbag report concluded.

As the world looks toward 2025, the UAE’s nighttime skyline — a blend of stars, skyscrapers, and safety — is set to remain one of the most inviting in the world.
