UAE Achieves Record-Breaking 6G Terahertz Speed in Abu Dhabi, Setting Stage for 2030 Rollout

🚀 6G Positions UAE Innovation on the Ultra-Fast Track

A record-breaking 6G terahertz (THz) pilot conducted in Abu Dhabi has officially positioned the UAE among global leaders in next-generation wireless innovation, marking a monumental step toward the ultra-connected future envisioned by the nation’s digital strategy.

In a landmark collaboration, e& UAE (formerly Etisalat) and New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) achieved a peak throughput of 145 Gbps during trials, showcasing the revolutionary potential of 6G technology to redefine communication, industry, and daily life.

The Next Leap in Connectivity

“To put this into perspective, 6G will enable next-level experiences such as holographic meetings, multi-sensory extended reality (XR), and terabit-class data backhaul for smart cities and beyond,” said Marwan Bin Shakar, Acting Chief Technology and Information Officer at e& UAE, speaking to Aletihad.

He emphasized that 6G’s significance extends beyond speed.

“It’s about building a resilient, intelligent network that can serve emerging technologies — from autonomous systems to real-time medical applications,” he noted.

Between 2025 and 2027, e& UAE plans to conduct further pilots and field trials to integrate 6G into existing infrastructure. By 2030, commercial 6G services are expected to launch, initially targeting research institutions, hospitals, and innovation hubs across Abu Dhabi.

🌍 Building on the UAE’s Digital Foundations

The UAE’s ambitious 6G roadmap is powered by a multi-layered spectrum strategy, combining diverse frequency bands to balance nationwide coverage and localized high-capacity applications.

“This vision builds on the UAE’s strong digital foundations and its sustained investment in next-generation infrastructure,” Bin Shakar added.

The 6G pilot aligns with the UAE’s Digital Economy Strategy, which aims to double the contribution of digital technologies to the national economy by 2032.

🏥 From Healthcare to Smart Mobility

One of the most transformative promises of 6G technology lies in healthcare innovation.

“With sub-millisecond latency and immense data capacity, 6G can enable tactile telemedicine — allowing surgeons to perform delicate operations remotely with robotic instruments and real-time feedback,” explained Bin Shakar.

This same capability supports medical digital twins — virtual patient models that simulate and predict health outcomes. Coupled with advanced wearables, this will redefine preventive medicine and personalized care across the UAE.

“6G will ensure equitable access to world-class care, wherever you are,” Bin Shakar emphasized.

In mobility, autonomous vehicles, drones, and logistics networks will rely on dense 6G communication layers to operate seamlessly and safely.

For smart cities, 6G will unlock real-time urban digital twins that optimize traffic, enhance energy efficiency, and power predictive city management with unmatched precision.

🛰️ Phased 6G Rollout Strategy

According to Bin Shakar, Abu Dhabi’s 6G rollout will follow a phased deployment for maximum impact:

  1. Phase 1 – THz Hotspots:
Launch at universities, hospitals, and innovation districts where high-capacity and low-latency demands are critical (2026–2027).
  2. Phase 2 – FR3 Spectrum Expansion (7–24 GHz):
Extend coverage citywide via macro networks, enabling seamless high-speed connectivity and intelligent infrastructure applications.
  3. Phase 3 – Fibre and E-Band Integration:
Tie all systems together using fibre transport networks for stability, with E-band wireless links in dense urban zones.
  4. Phase 4 – Industrial and Public Zone Coverage:
Expand to industrial areas, logistics hubs, and large public venues, creating a fully connected THz-enabled ecosystem.

“Abu Dhabi’s approach balances innovation with practicality,” Bin Shakar concluded.
“We’re ensuring the UAE leads the world in next-generation connectivity.”

🌐 6G and the UAE’s Global Ambition

The UAE’s early move into 6G aligns with its Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Strategy, reaffirming its vision to become a global innovation hub by 2031.

6G’s ability to fuse AI, robotics, IoT, and quantum communications will make it the backbone of industries ranging from healthcare and manufacturing to space exploration and education.

As the world races toward 6G commercialization, the UAE’s leadership demonstrates how visionary investment and academic-industry collaboration can define the future of human and digital progress.
